How to prepare for Assistant Commandant Exam

Assistant Commandant Exam Overview of the position:

Assistant Commandant is a Gazetted Officer rank.Itis a position inthe Central Armed Police Forces of India. UPSC conducts therecruitment on behalf of Central Armed Police Forces(CAPF). Generally speaking, male and female candidates can apply for the same.


Assistant Commandant Vacancy:

Male candidates can apply for positions in:

  • Central Industrial Security Force (CISF)
  • Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)
  • Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB)
  • Border Security Force (BSF)
  • Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP)

Females can apply for positions in:

  • CISF
  • Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)


Assistant Commandant Process and Application Fee:

Also, keep in mind that there are going to be two Written Papers,a Physical Efficiency test and a Medical Test. In addition, there is a personal interviewwhich is conducted for successful candidates. Also, note that relaxations to reserved categories are as per Government’s rules. In general, applicants from Scheduled Category (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Females don’t have to pay the application fee. However, for others, the fee details are always mentioned in the notice.


Assistant Commandant Syllabus and Courses:

When preparing for the Assistant Commandant,keep in mind that there will be two written test papers. One of theseis objective and second is descriptive.  

Paper I: It includes General Ability and Intelligence. Thesepapers carry 250 marks and their duration is of 2 hours. You can choose to give this paper in Hindi or English. Thepaper for Assistant Commandant Entrance testincludes questions from:

  • Logical reasoning
  • Quantitative aptitude
  • Data interpretation
  • Numerical ability
  • Analogy
  • Profit and loss
  • Time and distance
  • Graphs
  • Math tables
  • Pi-charts. 
  • Current affairs will include:

                        o Happenings in India and across the world
                        o Treaties signed between nations
                        o Awardsin fields like sports, music, arts, science etc.
                        o Economic conditions of various nations etc.

General science includes questions from:

  • History
  • Geography
  • Politics
  • Economy 
  • Geographical aspects of India and the World
  • Different rulers and their reigns
  • Freedom movement
  • Social & economic changes in India over the years
  • Political constitution of India
  • Public works undertaken
  • National and international threats
  • Overall economic state of India
  • Dialogues that are on between nations
  • Different business policies
  • Role of Reserve Bank of India etc. 

Paper II: This paper has two parts.First oneis descriptive andaccounts for 80 marks. This paper can be written in either Hindi or English language. The topics range from:

  • History 
  • Geography
  • Politics
  • Economy of India. 

The second paper is in English. It carries 120 marks covering:

  • Comprehension
  • Language skills
  • Precis 

Physical efficiency test: The written test is followed by Physical efficiency test. This includes activities like running, long jump, shot-put, etc. 

Medical test: After clearingphysical efficiency test, there is going to be amedical test. 

Personal interview: The final level is the personal Interview.


Assistant Commandant Eligibility:

Qualification: A candidate must have bachelor’s degree or equal. The degree should be from a recognised University. For the same, final year students can also apply. 


Nationality: Applicant must be a citizen of India.


Age Limit: Applicants can apply between the ages of 20-25 years.
While preparing, remember that to clear this exam, a candidate must be physically, mentally and medically fit. In addition to these written exams, acandidate has to pass Medical Test and Physical Efficiency Test.

There is no formula to know how to prepare for the Assistant Commandant Exam but hard work and dedication will pay.
